PDBF rowers bag 2 medals in Shanghai Championship


The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) bagged one silver and one bronze in the 2014 Shanghai International Dragon Boat Championship held in Shanghai, China.

The Filipino paddlers placed second in the Premier Open 300-meter event then wound up third in the Premier Open 3,000m category in the tournament participated by 24 teams from different countries.

“[It was a] fantastic team effort and bonding. It’s for the Philippines, for the sport. [We would like to thank the] Chinese Dragon Boat Association and Philippine Dragon Boat Federation [for the opportunity given to us],” said paddler Judith Hakim.

The PDBF elite crew left for Busan, South Korea on Tuesday to compete in the 4th Korea Open Busan International Dragon Boat Festival to be held at the Suyeong River, Apec Naru Park in Haendae.

The event will be on October 9 to 10.

In June, the PDBF won two golds, one silver and one bronze in the Prestigious 1st International Dragon Boat Federation World Cup held in Fuzhou, China then pocketed one gold and two silvers in the Asian Championships in Macau, China in July, and one gold and one silver in the 2014 Marina Regatta international dragon boat championship in Singapore in August.
