The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) pocketed one gold and one silver in the 2014 Development Bank of Singapore (DBS) Marina Regatta international dragon boat race held at the Marina Bay in Singapore.
The Filipina paddlers dominated the women’s international 200-meter event in one minute and 00.88 seconds, beating the national teams of Thailand (1:01.11) and host Singapore (1:01.87), which settled for silver and bronze, respectively. Indonesia placed fourth in 1:05.37.
The Philippines earned the silver medal in the women’s 500m small boat category to surpass the country’s one-silver, one-bronze haul in the 2013 edition.
Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation represented the country last year and placed second in the International Premier Women event and wound up third in the International Premier Open.
The PDBF paddlers will be seeing action next in the 2014 Asian Dragon Boat Championships scheduled on May 30 to June 1 in Macau with powerhouse China, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Chinese-Taipei, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong joining the race.
Some teams sanctioned by the PDBF are also gearing up for the prestigious 9th Club Crew World Dragon Boat Championship on September 3 to 7 in Ravena, Italy. In the 2012 edition in Hong Kong, the Philippines failed to win a single medal.
