PDEA arrested female fruit vendor, seizes 41 kilos marijuana in Baguio

The combined operatives of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Philippine National Police (PNP) seized 44 bricks of dried marijuana from a female fruit vendor at a transport terminal in Baguio City recently, the PDEA official said on Wednesday.

PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr., said that the dried marijuana leaves which weighed 41.475 kilograms, was confiscated from the suspect identified as Antonette Campiwer Churping, a fruit vendor, a native of Sadanga, Mountain Province and resident of Pinget, Baguio City.

Cacdac said that the combined elements of PDEA Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA RO-CAR) under Director Ronald Allan Ricardo and Baguio City Police Office Station 2 arrested Churping after she was caught red-handed transporting the marijuana bricks in a bus and PUJ terminal in Slaughter Compound, Barangay Sto. Niño, Baguio City.

“The seized illegal drug was neatly concealed inside a multi-colored nylon bag of assorted clothes, a box of ripe bananas and a sack of dried peanuts,” Cacdac said.

Investigation revealed that Churping, with the illegal hemp in tow, came from Bontoc, Mountain Province when intercepted by authorities.

She said Churping is presently under the custody of PDEA-CAR pending the filing of a case for violation of Section 5 (Transportation of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, before the Baguio City Prosecutor’s Office. PNA
