The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Thursday destroyed over 700 grams of different illegal drugs worth P964.94 million.
Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac, Jr., PDEA Director General, said the agency destroyed 722,446.5 grams (722.4 kilograms) of assorted pieces of drug evidence composed of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, cocaine, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, marijuana, ecstasy, valium, expired medicines, and 4,300 milliliters (4.3 liters) of liquid dangerous drugs.
“Based on the record and consolidated report of the PDEA Laboratory Service, these considerable volume of dangerous drugs and expired medicines were properly turned-over and endorsed with corresponding documentation to PDEA by other law enforcement agencies like the National Bureau of Investigation, PDEA Regional Offices, and various Regional Trial Courts ready for destruction,” said Cacdac.
He added that the destruction was held at the Clean Leaf International Corporation at 397 M. H. Del Pilar St., Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City.
Cacdac said the thermal decomposition is the process by which various compounds are broken down into single units by the application of heat wherein reconstruction of the substances is impossible.
“In today’s activity, we are informing the public and inculcating in the minds of the Filipino people that the dangerous drugs seized by authorities are not being reused, recycled or sold back in the streets”, Cacdac added.
“These illegal drugs and substances are no longer needed as evidence in court,” PDEA chief added.
The destruction of the dangerous drugs complies with the guidelines set on the custody and disposition of seized dangerous drugs required in Section 21, Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and DDB Regulation No. 1, series of 2002. PNA
