ILOILO CITY: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office has identified six barangays in this city as areas of concern in relation to the proliferation of illegal drugs. PDEA Regional Dir. Paul Ledesma named Bakhaw in Mandurriao and Desamparados in Jaro district to be covered by the Prevendido drug group and are allegedly known to be hosting several drug dens. The four barangays – Tanza-Esperanza and Monica in the city proper; South San Jose and Boulevard in the Molo district, reportedly under the Odicta group. Ledesma said Prevendido and Odicta are the names of alleged bigtime illegal drug groups operating in Iloilo and has been under police monitoring. The city drug pie chart showed that out of 180 barangays, 97 have no reported drug problem; 61 are with drug problem; and 22 already cleared of drug personalities, according to Ledesma’s report. An average of 15 pushers are arrested per month with 45 percent conviction rate on local drug personalities and high value targets.
