COTABATO CITY, Maguindanao: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-ARMM) arrested a couple and their son for possession of illegal drugs, while another man was detained for assorted unlicensed firearms and grenades in a separate police raid, officials said on Friday.
Anti-narcotics agents backed by Army Special Forces raided a house in Sitio Bubong, Barangay Kalanganan 2, Cotabato City at around 11 p.m., where they arrested Abe Hassan Hussain alias Kagi Abel, his wife Noraisa Baliwan Hussain, and their 22-year-old son Jaime Kasan. Kagi Abel was the target of the PDEA operation.
Seized from the suspects were 50 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” illegal drug paraphernalia, two fragmentation grenades, assorted ammunition for M-16 Armalite rifle, cal. 40 pistol and cal. 45 pistol.
The family of three are now detained at PDEA-ARMM detention cell, facing charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Meanwhile, a separate raid at Barangay Semba, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao arrested Ramloyd Usman for possession of two cal. 22 rifles, a home-made M-79 grenade launcher and cal. 22 magnum revolvers and 30 rounds of ammunition.
Senior Inspector Allan Uy, deputy director for Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG-Central Mindanao) said Usman admitted ownership of confiscated items but argued that the firearms, including the hand grenades are being kept in his house for his self defense.
