PDEA officer charged with grave threats

PHILIPPINE Drug Enforcement Agency-Cordillera Administrative Region (PDEA -CAR) Director Juvenal Azurin is facing charges of grave threats before the Sandiganbayan on a complaint filed by a former PDEA Tuguegarao director.

Records from the Office of the Ombudsman showed that Jaime J. Clave complained that in 2013 when he was the PDEA-RO2 director in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, Azurin verbally threatened to kill him while hurling expletives at him in front of witnesses.

Graft Investigation and Prosecution Officer II Esther Velasco-Legaspi alleged that Azurin caused Clave “to fear for his life” after receiving the threats. Azurin allegedly committed the offense as a result of “personal resentment.”

Making grave threats is punishable under Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code.
