BENGUET: An 18-year-old drug courier was arrested while transporting marijuana during a checkpoint operation conducted by anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the La Trinidad, Benguet Police.
PDEA Director General Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. identified the suspect as Lowie Cantores, jobless, and a resident of Les-eng, Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.
Combined elements of PDEA Regional Office-Cordillera Administrative Region, under Director Ronald Allan Ricardo and La Trinidad Municipal Police intercepted Cantores, who was traveling on foot carrying a black backpack and a sack, in a mobile checkpoint at Upper Wangal, La Trinidad, Benguet.
Authorities, however, found three marijuana bricks weighing approximately 3,750 grams inside the bag, and eight pieces of tubular-shaped marijuana stalks weighing 8,000 grams in the sack.
“Prior to Cantores’ arrest, the local authorities received information from a concerned citizen that marijuana bricks and stalks were about to be transported along Sablan-La Trinidad Road, Benguet. They immediately coordinated with PDEA RO-CAR and together set-up a mobile checkpoint to intercept the suspect,” Cacdac said.
The pieces of drug evidence were brought to the PNP Regional Crime Laboratory for qualitative examination, while Cantores is now under the custody of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station.
