COTABATO CITY: The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) raided on Wednesday the house of a regional assemblyman who is allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
Assemblyman Sidik Amiril of Maguindanao’s 2nd District, the target of operation, was not present when PDEA agents served a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Branch 13 at his residence in the village of Rosary Heights 11, according to PDEA-ARMM director Juvenal Azurin.
The raiding team, however, arrested Amiril’s relative and personal staff Buhari Samad Basir alias Buddy Samad and recovered two sachets of suspected shabu, a Glock .40 caliber pistol and two other handguns with ammunition during the operation.
Also recovered were two cellphones, a bag containing ammunition, a black Toyota Fortuner with temporary plate, ATM cards and documents.
Amiril, who has not been reporting at the ARMM legislative office here, is wanted for alleged involvement in illegal drugs and the PDEA will continue its surveillance operation, Azurin said.
The suspect is also said to be a relative of the mayor and vice mayor of Talitay town in Maguindanao, who went into hiding since they were tagged as among suspected narco-politicians in the province.
