Acting Makati City Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña filed his certificate of candidacy for mayor on Monday with one purpose in mind: to get control of the city from the Binay family.
Peña and members of his team marched from the Makati Coliseum where he declared his mayoral bid to the Commission on Elections office.
In his speech, Peña turned emotional as he recounted his experiences as a public servant and how he was allegedly mistreated by the Binays.
I saw how my t-shirts were burned, how my tarpaulins were ripped during graduation ceremonies. Sometimes when I attend ann event, my name is not even mentioned),” the former vice mayor related.
Puro volunteers lang ang meron ako (I endured for so many years because I was the only opposition. I had no budget, no staff, only volunteers),” he added.
Peña said he is not afraid to run against Mayor Jejomar “Junjun” Binay or Makati Rep. Abigail Binay in the mayoral race.
Peña’s running mate is political neophyte Karla Mercado, daughter of former Makati Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado – a known critic of Binays.
