Mayor Oscar Malapitan of Caloocan City on Friday tasked the City Engineer’s Office to look into all pending roadworks in the city’s main thoroughfares that could be a major cause of traffic.
Malapitan personally directed Chief Executive Officer-Officer in charge Engineer Athena Ativo to inspect them and direct all road project contractors to fast track all their undone works without sacrificing quality and safety.
“We need them to accomplish their projects at the soonest possible time to prevent traffic buildup and delays especially during rush hour,” Malapitan said.
For her part, Ativo said that she is willing to work overtime to accomplish the mayor’s order, adding that she has been receiving reports of traffic delays along the Monumento, Rizal Avenue Extension, EDSA-McArthur and Samson Road areas due to the barricades put up by contractors that impeded the flow of traffic.
“Konting ulan lang ang dumating grabe na ang traffic dito sa may Monumento lalo na sa Bonifacio Circle,” she said.
Ativo also called the attention of water concessionaire Maynilad’s Engr. Jessa Mae Salas to synchronize all their roadwork to prevent congestion.
The water firm, for its part, assured that all repairs and maintenance works will be completed by the end of the September 2013, saying that it is currently undergoing replacement of pipelines, repair and leaks.
