JERUSALEM: The body of Shimon Peres, who died on Wednesday, is to lie in state outside Israel’s par-liament on Thursday as the world pays tribute to a statesman whose funeral is expected to draw lead-ers from around the globe.
US President Barack Obama is among the many world leaders expected to attend the funeral on Fri-day.
Other leaders due to attend the ceremony include Britain’s Prince Charles, former US president Bill Clinton, French President Francois Hollande and Spain’s King Felipe VI.
Tens of thousands of ordinary Israelis are also expected to pay tribute to a man who shaped so much of Israel’s history.
Tributes flowed in as soon as his family, who praised his tireless work ethic and devotion to peace, an-nounced Peres’s death.
The country’s blue and white flags would be lowered to half-mast around the world from Thursday morning.
