The Philippine women’s national basketball team ended their campaign in the FIBA Asia Women’s Championship in Wuhan, China with an 80-73 overtime win over Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
Despite Perlas Pilipinas’ dominance during the early portion of the game, the match was brought to overtime with a late surge by Kazakhstan.
Ewon Arayi emerged as the hero for the Philippines after scoring 28 points, with 13 markers made in the crucial minutes of the overtime period. Her compatriot Allana Lim added another 17 points while UAAP most valuable player Afril Bernardino contributed 14 rebounds plus six steals. Shelley Gupilan and Andrea Tongco posted 10 points each to seal the Philippines’ fourth consecutive victory in the tilt.
With the win, Perlas Pilipinas emerged as the top level 2 team.
The Philippines is scheduled to battle level 1’s bottom-dweller’s India on Friday to enter the top tier phase of the championship.
