Perlas yields to SKorea in FIBA Cup

Perlas Pilipinas dropped its last group phase game as it succumbed to South Korea, 63-91, in the top division of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Women’s Cup 2017 on Tuesday at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor Stadium in Bengaluru, India.

The women’s national team kept pace in the opening period but the Koreans broke away in the middle quarters to capture the win.

With the result, the Philippines finished last in Group B with a dismal 0-3 win-loss record though it still advances to the quarterfinals.

Allana Lim proved to be the lone bright spot for Perlas as she fired a team-best 14 points and hauled down six rebounds.

Danbi Kim led the world ranked No. 15 South Korea with 19 points while Han Byul Kim finished with 11 markers and nine boards.

Following a 19-19 deadlock at the end of the first quarter, South Korea heavily outscored the Philippines in the second and third frames, 51-28.

The Filipinas face another tough task when they battle China, which topped Group A and ranked No. 1 in Asia, in the knockout stage on Thursday.
