Perpetual escapes Beda in NCAA volley


University of Perpetual Help System Dalta survived San Beda College, 23-25, 25-19, 27-29, 25-15, 15-7, to remain unbeaten in seven games and clinch the first Final Four slot in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 91 men’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

Allan Jay Salaan finished with 14 points while Relan Tano chipped in 12 points and Ranidean Abcede added 10 for the Altas.

Perpetual will be gunning for a sweep and an automatic spot in the finals with thrice-to-beat advantage when it faces defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College (7-1) on Friday and Colegio de San Juan de Letran (2-5) on Sunday.

In the women’s division, Perpetual Help clobbered San Beda, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22, to strengthen its Final Four hopes with five wins and two losses.

Jamela Suyat posted 16 points on 11 attacks, three blocks and two aces for the Lady Altas. She got ample support from Ana Diocareza, who had 13, and Cindy Imbo, who delivered 10.

San Sebastian College is leading the pack with a clean 7-0 mark followed by reigning titlist Arellano University (6-1) and College of St. Benilde (6-1).

In juniors, Perpetual Help blasted San Beda, 25-14, 25-19, 25-8, to stay on top with a perfect 5-0 record.

The Junior Altas also eye for a seven-game sweep as it battle the Brigadiers (5-1) and the Squires (2-4) in their last two assignments.
