Perpetual forces deciding Game 3 in NCAA men’s volley

University of Perpetual Help System Dalta stunned defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC), 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-19, to force a do-or-die match in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 91 men’s volleyball best-of-three finals at The Arena in San Juan City.

Power-hitting Rey Taneo Jr. scored 16 points on 13 attacks; two aces and a block while Ranidean Abcede contributed 14 points including four blocks and an ace for the Altas.

Reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP) Howard Mojica was in his usual element, nailing 20 attacks, one block and one serve with Hariel Doguna and Israel Encina contributing a combined 23-point showing for EAC.

The Generals, however, committed 35 costly errors and were limited to just four blocks, allowing the Altas to deliver 44 points on the attack line.


The deciding Game 3 will be on Tuesday at the same venue.

In juniors, Perpetual Help claimed its second straight title by toppling EAC, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 15-11, in Game 2 of their best-of-three series.

Dawin Salopaso and Jody Margaux Severo posted 17 points each while Ivan Encila chipped in 13 hits as the Junior Altas completed a 2-0 series sweep against the Brigadiers.

Perpetual Help also win in Game 1, 25-13, 25-18, 25-16.

Severo was named Finals MVP.
