Perpetual Help seeks 7th win


UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help Altas try to strengthen their hold of solo second when they meet hot-streaking College of Saint Benilde Blazers while San Sebastian College Stags tangle against Lyceum of the Philippines Pirates on Monday in the 89th National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.

The Altas with a 6-2 win-loss slate and the Blazers at 3-5 are actually going to complete their respective first round elimination assignment when they collide at 6 p.m. following the San Sebastian Stags and the Lyceum Pirates collision at 4 p.m.

In the high school competition, the Lyceum Junior Pirates face the San Sebastian Staglets at 12 noon and the Saint Benilde-La Salle Greenhills Greenies take on the Perpetual Altalettes at 2 p.m.

The Altas-Blazers encounter is expected to go down-the-wire since both teams will suit up in the match coming from impressive wins.

Coach Aric del Rosario’s Altas are in high spirit following their 80-66 victory over Letran, which ended the Knights’ seven-game winning streak last Thursday.

Saint Benilde, on the other hand, is on a hot streak following its three-game winning run capped by a resounding 84-64 rout over Mapua Cardinals on Saturday.

The win at least moved coach Gabby Velasco’s team to a tie at sixth spot along with Emilio Aguinaldo Generals with identical 3-5 card.

The Stags are currently bearing a 4-4 record and needs to win over Lyceum to remain within striking distance from Letran and San Beda College, which are sharing the top position with similar 7-1 card. Lyceum is also tied with Arellano from 8th to 9th with similar 2-6 record.
