Peru’s Guerrero cleared for World Cup as ban cut

PARIS: Peru captain Paolo Guerrero has had his one-year drugs ban reduced to six months, FIFA said in a statement sent to Agence France-Presse on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), allowing him to play at next year’s World Cup.

“The FIFA Appeal Committee after taking into account all the circumstances of the case, in particular the degree of fault of the player, considered a six-month period of ineligibility to be a proportionate sanction,” FIFA explained.
