PETRON Blaze will attempt to regain solo lead when it faces San Mig Coffee while winless Meralco battles Air 21 today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Blaze Boosters crushed defending titlist Talk ‘N Text, 77-63, on Saturday forging a three-way tie at the top of the standing with Barako Bull and Ginebra. All three teams are currently bearing 2-0 win-loss slates.
A win by the Blaze Boosters over the Coffee Mixers at 8 p.m. today will enable them to
regain solo leadership. The Air 21 Express and the Meralco Bolts, which are both still winless aim to barge into the win column when they collide at 5:45 p.m.
Coach Gee Abanillia of Petron will again rely on Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, Chris Lutz, Dough Kramer and 6’10 June Mar Fajardo that combined for 60 points, 51 rebounds, 13 assists and five block shots to frustrate the Tropang Texters. Their first victory was against Globalport, 97-87, on November 20.
The Coffee Mixers, obviously, after absorbing two losses have not yet reached top form after winning the Governor’s Cup in October. Their first setback was at the hands of Ginebra, 68-86, on November 17, and the second was at the hands of Alaska, 80-84, on Friday.
