• Petron blaze seeks sixth straight win

PETRON Blaze will stake its unblemished slate when it takes on cellar-dweller Air 21 Express while San Mig Coffee battles Meralco Bolts today in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.

The Blaze Boosters posted a slim 86-85 win over Alaska Aces on December 7 despite a depleted line-up. June Mar Fajardo fired 20 points, 12 rebounds and two block shots to stretch their winning run to five.

Coach Gee Abanilla’s squad is heavily favored over the Express, who are bearing a 1-5 win-loss card. Air 21’s lone win was over sister team Barako Bull, 92-77, also on December 7.

The Petron vs. Air 21 match is set at 5:45 p.m. while Meralco with a 2-3 record faces San Mig Coffee at 8 p.m.

The 6’10 Fajardo is expected to lead the Blaze Boosters again along with Chris Lutz, Arwind Santos, Marcio Lassiter, Paolo Hubalde, Dough Kramer, Jojo Duncil, Chico Lanete and Jason Deutchman.

Meanwhile, Coach Franz Pumaren of Air 21 will lean on big man Asi Taulava, Joseph Yeo, Nino Canaleta, Mark Cardona, Wynne Arboleda, Vic Manuel, Bon-Bon Custodio, Elmer Espiritu, Carlo Sharma and Ronnie Matias.
