PETRON Blaze tries to cement its hold of the solo top spot when it faces Alaska Aces today in the 38th Philippine Basketball Association Governors Cup elimination round at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
They will face the Aces at 7:30 p.m. following the Air 21 Express and Talk ‘N Text battle at 5:15 p.m.
A win by coach Gee Abanilla’s team would improve their win-loss slate to 7-1, which is some three wins ahead over Meralco, Rain or Shine, San Mig Coffee and Barako Bull, which were locked with similar 4-3 card each.
Meanwhile, the 6’4 forward Arwind Santos of Petron is now on top of the race for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum. He has now amassed 29.8 statistical points ahead of Alaska rookie Calvin Abueva with 28.6 SPs. The former Far Eastern University Tamaraw Santos average 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds in 30 minutes of play with the Blaze Boosters first six games in the season-ending conference.
