The Petron Blaze Spikers emerged as the leading team in the 2015 Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix after a resounding victory over the Meralco Power Spikers, 27-25, 25-20, 25-21, at the San Juan Arena late Thursday evening.
The victory also fortified the reigning champions’ entry into the semifinal round of the
competition. The Petron Blaze Spikers finished with six wins and two losses in the elimination round.
Despite a slow start in the first set, Petron gained the upper hand over Meralco in the remaining moments of the match.
Brazilian import Rupia Inck led the Blaze Spikers with 17 points off 14 attacks while Dindin Manabat added 12 markers.
In the first game, the Foton Tornadoes shredded the Philips Gold Lady Slammers in four sets, 25-14, 25-22, 18-25, 25-18, to improve their record to four wins and three losses.
Meanwhile, action continues today in the second round of elimina¬tions of the tournament as the PSL stages a double-header game at the Malolos Sports and Convention Center in Bulacan.
Meralco is set to face Philips Gold in the first game at 1 p.m. followed by the Cignal HD Spikers vs RC Cola Air Force Raiders match at 3 p.m.
