IT’S now Petron Blaze’ turn to stake its unbeaten slate as it goes up against Barako Bull while Alaska battles Air 21 Express on Wednesday in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Blaze Boosters face Barako Energy Cola at 5:45 p.m. to be
followed by the game between the Aces and the Express at 8 p.m.
Coach Gee Abanilla’s Petron raced to three straight win, the most recent was over San Mig Coffee, 91-78, last Nov. 27 courtesy of 6’10 slotman June Mar Fajardo, who fired 21 points on top of 25 rebounds, two assists, four block shots and a steal in 41 minutes of action.
Despite playing with only nine players due to the injury of Alex Cabagnot, Ronald Tubid and Chris Ross, the Blaze Boosters held the Coffee Mixers to only 12 points in a blazing 27-12 run to remain on top along with Ginebra in the standing.
The Gin Kings, however, were still battling Meralco Bolts at presstime.
Abanilla will again lean on the Cebuano star Fajardo, who average 15.3 points, 16.7 rebounds and 2.3 block shots a game against Barako Bull, which is hoping to bounce back after an 83-91 setback to Rain or Shine on Sunday. The Energy Cola is currently bearing 2-1 win-loss slate.
Coach Bong Ramo’s Energy Cola will rely on Mick Penissi, Dorian Pena, Mark Isip, Willie Miller, Ronjay Buenafe, Jonas Villanueva, JC Intal and Mark Macapagal against Chris Lutz, Marcio Lassiter, Chico Lanete and reigning MVP Arwind Santos.
