THE Peugeot 208, a direct descendant of the legendary Peugeot 205 rally car, will follow in its ancestor’s racing path by competing in rallycross, according to Peugeot’s representative in the Philippines, Eurobrands Distributor Inc. (EDI).
It noted that the popularity and excitement inherent in rallycross has seen the particular motor sport’s discipline grow in recent years, and has been given a further lift by the creation of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014. EDI said that all the ingredients were consequently in place for Peugeot to join forces with one of the sport’s leading teams, Hansen Motorsport.
The team, officially called Team Peugeot-Hansen and is supported by Total, will campaign a Peugeot 208 T16 silhouette version of the Peugeot 208. The program will cover all 12 rounds of the championship that starts in May.
Hansen Motorsport is led by Kenneth Hansen, which EDI said boasts one of the most successful records in rallycross history, both as a driver and as manager of his own operation.
