Peugeot Philippines showcased its rich motor sports heritage as well as its full vehicle line-up at the just concluded Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).
“Motor sports is not only our passion, it’s in our DNA,” said Glen Dasig, president of Peugeot Philippines. “In the span of more than three decades, we have produced some of the best rally and sports racing cars the industry has ever seen,” he added.
To celebrate Peugeot’s motor sports heritage, two custom-built Peugeot 208 GTi’s were put on display. The first is inspired by the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak, which made its victorious debut at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Combining a light body weight with a twin-turbo V6 engine, the Peugeot 208 T16 has a total power output of 887 horsepower. “The Peugeot 208 T16 proves Peugeot’s dedication to motor sports excellence. It has shattered records and is regarded as one of the best rally cars to date,” said Karen Carvajal, marketing director of Peugeot Philippines, in her welcome remarks at the 2016 PIMS.
The second custom-built Peugeot 208 GTi is a participating vehicle in one of the country’s biggest racing events of the year: The 2016 Targa Manila.
Developed by Tuason Racing, Targa Manila will be the first premium car rally powered by Peugeot Philippines. Following the Time-Speed-Distance format, 24 teams will have to compete with each other in a battle of wits, strategy and performance. “This is Peugeot’s first venture into the local motor sports scene,” Carvajal said. “Organized together with Tuason Racing, it will be an unforgettable experience for both car fans and spectators alike,” she added.
The teams are composed of various celebrities, car enthusiasts, influencers and members of the automotive media. A total of eight Peugeot 208 GTi’s will be joining the line-up of participating vehicles. “The Targa Manila is a perfect venue for us to showcase our motor sports heritage. That is why we we are lending as many Peugeot 208 GTi units as we can,” Carvajal said.
Peugeot Philippines brought the complete showroom experience to the PIMS. With the Peugeot 308 hatchback and station wagon taking center stage, the 308, 3008, 5008 and Expert Tepee were also on display and made available for test drives.
Designed for families who love driving off the beaten track, the sleek 3008 Crossover takes its inspiration from the SUV, hatchback and MPV to deliver a practical, comfortable family vehicle with an adventurous spirit.
For those preferring a larger cabin option, the Peugeot 5008 presents a new take on the compact MPV with its bold and dynamic design. “It boasts an NCAP 5-star rating; the highest safety accolade any vehicle can receive,” Carvajal said.
Those requiring a bigger seating capacity without sacrificing luggage space will find the perfect family van in the Peugeot Expert Tepee. “As one of Europe’s leading van manufacturers, Peugeot’s expertise is clearly evident in the Peugeot Expert Tepee. It showcases the brand’s strengths and commitment to providing complete mobility options for every need,” Carvajal said. Boasting three rows of modular seats, intelligent storage options and Peugeot’s signature driving sensation, the Peugeot Expert Tepee brings comfort and style into long family journeys.
