The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) has expressed their interest to make the new 25,000 seater Philippine Sports Stadium in Bulacan as the home venue for the World Cup qualification round games of the Azkals.
According to PFF General Secretary Edwin Gastanes, the federation is keen to assign the stadium as one of the prospective venues for the event.
“There is an intention on the part of the federation to nominate the Philippine Sports Stadium as the home venue of the team,” he said.
The initiative was made following the first international match between Global FC and Myanmar side Yadanarbon FC for the AFC Cup.
The final list of nomination for the home stadium of the Philippine national football team will be revealed by the PFF on April 17.
Meanwhile, the Azkals will face tough competition after landing in Group H of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers during the draw held at Kuala Lumpur.
The Azkals are housed together with Uzbekistan, Bahrain, North Korea and Yemen.
The highest ranked opponent of the team is world No.73 and the Asian regions top six national team, Uzbekistan.
Consequently, the games for the first round of eliminations for the qualifiers of the world championship will kick off in June this year.
