The Philippines continued its impressive showing in the prestigious 2016 IDBF World Club Crew Dragon Boat Championships as it earned four more gold medals on Thursday at the Ramsay Regatta Course in Adelaide, Australia.

Philippine Coast Guard led the charge of the Filipino paddlers this time by winning three gold medals in the tournament sanctioned by the International Dragon Boat Federation.

The Coast Guard paddlers dominated the 500m small boat women’s premier in two minutes and 20.615 seconds, beating second-placer Hamilton City Water Sports of New Zealand, which checked in at 2:20.723.

Canada’s False Creek Racing Canoe Club completed the podium finishers with a time of 2:23.403, good for bronze.

Coast Guard stayed sharp in the 500m small boat mixed premier as it topped the event by virtue of its 1:53.742-minute performance, leaving Canada’s Pickering Dragon Boat Club in second (1:55.958) and Hamilton City Water Sports in third (1:58.618).

In the 200m standard boat mixed premier category, Coast Guard shredded the favorites with another brilliant showing of 45.516 seconds and sent Pickering Dragon Boat Club in second place anew (46.316) and Macau Dragon Boat Club in third place (47.236).

The Philippine Army Dragon Warriors added one more gold medal by ruling the 200m small boat mixed premier event in 52.607 seconds against silver medalist Singapore Paddle Club (53.815) and bronze winner United Arab Emirates-Dubai Diggers (53.959).

So far, the Philippines has already claimed seven gold medals in the tournament participated by US, China, Czech Republic, Canada, Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia and host Australia.

“I am very proud of these accomplishments by our soldier-athletes. They are bringing honor not only for the Army but the whole country as a whole,” Army Chief Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año told The Manila Times.

The Filipino paddlers earlier bagged golds in the 500m small boat premier mixed event, 500m small boat premier open and 2,000m small boat premier open.

“Our female paddlers are newcomers in this level of competition but they have performed excellently due to their fighting spirit and outstanding discipline,” added Philippine Army Dragon Warriors President Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc.
