The national differently-abled athletes scooped three gold medals in 7th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Para Games swimming competitions being held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar.
Veteran tanker Ernie Gawilan made his presence felt by winning two gold medals. He dominated the men’s 400-meter freestyle S8 in 5:03.09 then ruled the 200m freestyle S8 in 2:25.48.
Daniel Damaso added one gold medal in the men’s 100m freestyle S12 as he registered 1:08.52.
Also winning gold medals are Sander Severino of chess (physical handicapped event), the men’s chess team of Severino, Henry Roger Lopez and Alexis Elinon, Prudencia Panaligan of athletics (100m run T54, 19.18), Achelle Guion of powerlifting (45kg category, 77kg) and Isaias Seronio of table tennis (TT10-Open).
The silver medalists are Henry Roger Lopez, Menandro Redor, Israel Peligro and Ireneo Melchor Pizzaro of chess; Arnel Aba of swimming (400m FS-S9); Arman Dino (100m T46) and Joel Balatucan (Shotput F55) of athletics; Jeanette Acebeda (javelin F11/12) and Roger Tapia (100m T46) of athletics; Roland Sabido (400m Ffreestyle S9) and Gary Bejino (50m breaststroke SB7) of swimming; and Isaias Seronio and Benedict Gaela of table tennis (TT10-Doubles).
Earning bronze medals are Aba (200m S9, 2:30.69), Arman Dino of athletics (400m T46, 54.65), Marydol Pamatian of powerlifting (41kg category, 57kg), ang the men’s chess team of Francis Ching, Rodolfo Sarmiento and Israel Peligro (team event).
