PH bags 5 medals in Brunei Open Track and Field Championship

The national athletics team claimed one gold, two silvers and two bronzes in the 5th Brunei Open Track and Field Championship held at the Tutong Track and Field Sports Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

Singapore Southeast Asian Games decathlon bronze medalist Janry Ubas spearheaded the country’s campaign as he bagged the team’s lone gold medal in two-day meet.

The 5-foot-5 Ubas topped the men’s long jump after registering 7.35 meters.

Ubas, a Far Eastern University standout, added another feather to his cap by claiming the silver medal in the high jump event by virtue of his 1.95-meter showing.

Former SEA Games gold medalist Isidro Del Prado Jr. contributed a silver in the men’s 100m dash (10.89) and a bronze in the 200m dash (21.75).

The second bronze medal was delivered by Ryan Bigyan in the men’s 400m (48.81).

Early this year, the national track and field squad bagged two golds, two silvers and one bronze in the 2015 Taiwan Open Athletics Championship in Taipei, and six golds, four silvers and three bronze medals in the 77th Singapore Open Track and Field Championships.

The team also grabbed five golds, seven silvers and nine bronzes in the 2015 edition of the SEA Games. EMIL C. NOGUERA
