The Philippines earned one gold, three silver and two bronze medals in the 2016 Asian Cup Rowing Championships held at the Singapore Rowing Association Pandan Reservoir in Singapore.
The Filipino paddlers claimed the country’s lone gold medal in the Masters Mixed Team event as they beat second placer ERC Singapore and third placer Cambridge Singapore in the tournament sanctioned by the Asian Rowing Federation.
Olympian Benjie Tolentino and Indonesia Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Nestor Cordova delivered a silver medal in the men’s double sculls in the event that drew participants from host Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia and India.
Also earning silver medals were promising rowers Cris Nievare (boys’ single sculls) and Joanie Delgado (girls’ single sculls) while Edgar Ilas (lightweight single sculls), and Arriane Snyder and Delgado (junior doubles sculls) contributed the bronzes.
Meanwhile, two Filipinos made it to the final round of the International Canoe federation (ICF) World Juniors and Under 23 Championships held in Belarus.
Hermie Macaranas placed 16th overall in the men’s Under-23 200m event with a time of 42.085 seconds while Rosalyn Esguerra finished 15th in the junior women’s 200m then 17th in the 500m category.
