PH bet enters Seatta tilt semifinals


Jann Mari Nayre swept the elimination round of boys’ 15-under singles class on Monday to reach the semifinals of the 19th Southeast Asian Table Tennis Association (Seatta) Junior Championship in Harrison Plaza Mall in Manila.

Nayre, a native of Mandaue, Cebu, scored a thrilling 7-11, 11-7, 12-10, 1-11, 12-10 win over Singaporean bet Tay Ming Han Maxxe and coasted to an easy 11-7, 11-9, 12-10 victory over Moungwhan Chaiyadej of Thailand during the elimination round.

“I was pressured before the match, but my confidence went high when I heard the crowd’s all-out support,” said the 13-year-old Nayre, who is already assured of a bronze medal in the boys’ 15-U class. “I’m hoping to make it to the finals.”

Nayre will meet Thailand’s Puangthip Sirawit in the semifinals.

The Philippines’ Emy Rose Dael, lost to Singapore’s Ang Wan Qi, 0-3, in their girls’ U-15 quarterfinal match.

The Philippine boys’ team settled for a bronze in the 15-under category over the weekend after an impressive 3-1 win over Malaysia in the quarterfinals.

The Philippines lost to Thailand (1-3) in semifinals of the event hosted by the Table Tennis Association of the Philippines headed by President Ting Ledesma and supported by the Philippine Olympic Committee and the Philippine Sports Commission.

Thailand captured the boys’ 15-U title over Singapore team (3-2), while the Thais also won the boys’ U-18 title with a 3-0 win also over Singapore.

Singapore’s girls’ team won the 15 and 18-U division titles.

Singapore 15-U whipped Malaysia, 3-1, while its 18-U team defeated Thailand, 3-1, in the championship round.
