Seven Filipino keglers led by youthful Enzo Hernandez made it to the next round of the 47th Singapore International Open 2014 being held at the Orchid Bowl-Orchid Country Club.
Hernandez placed second in the men’s open qualifying round after rolling 1,415 on 723 and 692 to automatically advance to the Finals Second Round.
The top four players in the men’s division will advance to the Finals Second Round after the qualifying round.
The fifth to 40th placers and will go through the Finals First Round.
The other Filipinos who reached the Finals First Round were No. 7 former world champion Biboy Rivera (1,396 on 727 and 699) and Kenneth Chua (1,390 on 708 and 682).
In the women’s open category, veteran campaigners Liza Del Rosario, Lara Posadas, Krizziah Tabora and Sheena Go also secured their respective spots in the Finals First Round.
Del Rosario scored 1,279 (643 and 636) for eighth, Posadas had 1,253 (664 and 589) for 15th, Tabora got 1,251 (630 and 621) for 16th and Go registered 1,233 (628 and 605) for 19th.
Liza Clutario (No. 36 with 1,209), Rachelle Leon (No. 43 with 1,169) and Cecilia Yap (No. 44 with 1,165) were the first casualties in the tournament sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation.
Only top three players in the women’s division got automatic berths to the Finals Second Round with the fourth to 30th placers battling it out in the Finals First Round.
The organizers gave outright Finals Second Round slots to reigning titlists Adrian Ang of Malaysia (men’s) and Jane Sin Li of Malaysia (women’s).
Bea Hernandez earned the country’s first medal in the tournament after finishing second in the youth girls’ under-18 event.
