Gilas Pilipinas standout Calvin Abueva will be leading the country’s campaign in the prestigious International Basketball Federation (FIBA) 3×3 World Tour finals scheduled on October 15 to 16 at the Nation Towers in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Abueva, a member of the silver-medal team in the recently-concluded FIBA Asia Championship, will be joined by Gilas Pilipinas pool member Troy Rosario, Vic Manuel and Karl Dehesa.
“The 3×3 challenge is a big thing to us even to the grassroots. We intend to really support the program because we believe that it will be on our own good,” said Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas Executive Director Sonny Barrios during the Philippine Sportswriters Association weekly forum on Tuesday at Shakey’s Malate.
Abueva, Rosario, Manuel and Dehesa of Team Manila North made it to the World Tour Finals after placing second in the Manila Masters.
They are currently ranked 12th overall and will be playing in Pool D along with teams from Qatar and Slovenia.
After the tournament, the four cagers are expected to fly back in Manila as the 41st season of the Philippine Basketball Association gets underway on October 18 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Abueva and Manuel play for Alaska while Rosario and Dehesa are with Talk N’ Text and Kia Carnival, respectively. JEAN RUSSEL V. DAVID
