The Philippines will be parading a strong 14-member national poomsae [forms]team in the 9th World Tae kwon do Poomsae Championsips scheduled on October 30 to November 2 in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Reigning world champions Jean Pierre Sabido, Ernesto Guzman Jr. and Glenn Lava are back to defend their title in the men’s senior team event while 2009 world titlist Ma. Carla Janice Lagman and Rani Ann Ortega are hoping to bring back the glory days as they connived with new member Rinna Babanto.
“We are sending senior players this championships. We also have a new Korean coach in Ho-Yong Ji who came early this October for our training camp,” Sabido told The Manila Times.
Also in the team are Myanmar Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Dustin Jacob Mella and Raphael Enrico Mella as well as Jocel Lyn Ninobla, Rodolfo Reyes Jr. June Ninobla, Jaylord Seridon, Jeordan Dominguez and Juvenile Faye Crisostomo.

“We were not able to train in South Korea because the money was used to send the [Korean] coach in the Philippines. We trained eight hours a day and we’re optimistic that we’ve had enough training to win medals in this year’s edition,” added Sabido.
The Philippines won three gold, two silver and one bronze medals in the 2013 edition held at the Bali International Convention Center in Indonesia.
Last May, the team bagged two golds, four silvers and two bronzes in the 2014 Asian Tae kwon do Poomsae Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with Sabido earning gold in the men’s individual, and the Mella brothers together with Vidal Marvin Gabriel winning the team event gold.
