The Philippine Canoe-Kayak Dragon Boat Federation bagged a gold medal in the 2015 Thailand International Swan Boat Races held at the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Filipino paddlers checked in at two minutes and 11.55 seconds to dominate the Small Boat 500-meter race.
Host Thailand settled for silver with a time of 2:12.82 while Singapore took the bronze in 2:15.64.
South Korea wound up fourth overall (2:16.39).
“We competed against national teams from different countries. And again, for the second time this year after Asian Dragon Boat Championships, we won against Thailand dragon boat national team,” said national dragon boat head coach Len Escollante.
The national dragon boat team won a couple of gold medals in the 2015 Asian Dragonboat Championships held in Palembang, Indonesia in November, winning the Small Boat Open 500-meter and Small Boat Open 200-meter events.
“We’ll have a brief rest this holiday season but we’ll be back in our regular training as soon as possible as we prepare for more international tournaments next year,” added Escollante.
Last year, the team claimed five golds, three silvers and three bronzes in the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Dragon Boat World Championships held in Poznan, Poland.
They ruled the juniors men 500m, juniors men 200m, seniors men 200m 20-seater, seniors men 200m 10-seater and seniors mixed 200m.
