• PH cue masters rule US tilt

Veteran cue masters Lee Van Corteza, Francisco Busta-mante and Alex Pagulayan reigned supreme in their respective divisions in the 2013 Southern Classic held in Tunica, Mississippi.

Corteza, who recently won the 2013 China Open 9-Ball Championship, topped the Southern Classic 9-Ball standard after beating Dennis Orcollo, 2-0 (9-7, 9-7), in an all-Filipino championship showdown.

Corteza pocketed the $10,000 top purse while Orcollo settled for $6,000 consolation prize. Corteza made it to the finals by beating Phil Burford of Great Britain while Orcollo clobbered Niels Feijen of the Netherlands.

Bustamante, meanwhile, outclassed American Justin Hall in the finals to claim the Southern Classic standard 9-Ball ring game. Bustamante earned $4,000 while Hall pocketed $2,000.

The former World 9-Ball titlist Pagulayan also made some waves by clinching the Southern Classic Bank Pool Division crown. He defeated American Skyler Woodward in the finals to get the $8,000 champion’s purse. Woodward received $4,000 runner-up prize.
