He is Jung Kuho, the creative director of Samsung Cheil Industries which carries the Maison Lebeige in South Korea. A flagship store for Cheil’s women’s clothing brand Lebeige, it also features furniture and home accessories, exhibits works of art, and hosts various events.

The designer’s appreciation of Philippine design led to a recent visit by a delegation of Korean dignitaries from Samsung Cheil Industries and one from the Asean-Korea Centre (AKC). They came here to select three Philippine interior furnishing and home accessory brands to be showcased at an in-store Maison Lebeige promotional engagement and business-to-consumer (B2C) exhibition.

The visiting group consists of the Second Deputy Head for the Trade and Investment Group of ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) Ki-Bong Moon, Samsung Cheil Industries General Manager (and deputy of Jung Kuho) YOO Jung Kyu, along with Samsung Cheil Industries Designer DO Young Joo and merchandiser LEE Sun Young.

On the two-day visit organized by the Center of International Trade Expositions and Missions (Citem)—the export marketing arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)—the group met up with some of the country’s top interior design visionaries, including Kenneth Cobonpue, Vito Selma and Jude Tiotuico of Industria Home. Their itinerary also included exploring pieces from design house W/17, and Citem’s own design hub, HallONE.

“This is the first of its kind in which the proponents felt that a specific project can be done in partnership only with the Philippines, among the other Asean countries,” shared Rosvi Gaetos, CITEM executive director.

The three delegates will later on convene and consult with Kuho Jung, on who the three top Filipino interior designers are to be featured for the upcoming Maison Lebeige exhibition.

The January 2014 Maison Lebeige design exhibition is set to be a collaboration between Samsung’s Cheil Industries and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center of Korea, and will also be made possible through the help of the AKC.
