The Philippines earned a total of 17 medals including two golds in the 2nd Southeast Asia Pacific Fencing Championships held at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Lawrence Tan and Timothy Gonzales led the charge of the host country as they completed a 1-2 finish in the boy’s individual epee cadet of the tournament participated by teams from Australia, Vietnam, Macau and Brunei Darussalam, among others.
Australia’s Mark Morris took the bronze medal.
The second gold medal was delivered by the women’s sabre cadet team-A, beating teams from Vietnam (silver) and Australia (bronze.
Winning silver medals in their respective events were Maxine Esteban (girls’ individual foil cadet Under-17), John Prince Felipe (boys’ individual foil cadet Under-17), Drew Allyssa Celso (girls’ individual sabre cadet Under-17), the women’s foil cadet team-A, the men’s sabre cadet team-A, and the men’s epee cadet team-A.
The bronzes came from Divine Romero (girls’ individual foil cadet Under-17), Lawrence Tan (boys’ individual foil cadet Under-17), the women’s foil cadet team-B, the women’s foil cadet team-C, women’s sabre cadet team-B, the men’s sabre cadet team-B, the men’s epee cadet team-B, the women’s epee junior team-A and the women’s epee junior team-B.
Australia bagged the overall title with five golds, two silvers and seven bronzes while Vietnam placed second with three golds, two silvers and one bronze. Singapore has one gold, Brunei Darussalam got one silver and one bronze, and Macau pocketed one bronze.
