The Philippines is set to host the 11th world congress of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club (MBBWC) next year which will showcase Puerto Galera Bay as a prime tourist destination.
Around 100 tourism officials from 20 countries are expected to attend the congress which is slated for November next year.
Puerto Galera Most Beautiful Bay Inc. (PGMBBI) head Hubert d’Aboville said Puerto Galera is a good microcosm of the Philippines as a tourist destination.
“In Puerto Galera, we have the beaches, resorts, multiple diving spots, great food, entertainment for the whole family, and the warm hospitality of the Filipinos. During the congress, we are not just showcasing Puerto Galera but we are pushing for Philippine tourism as a whole,” d’Aboville said.
According to d’Aboville, the world congress of the MBBWC will be held in Manila. The general assembly, meanwhile, is set in Puerto Galera.
The Department of Tourism’s Tourism Promotions Board, meanwhile, will serve as the main sponsors. The local government of Oriental Mindoro and the town of Puerto Galera will also be heavily involved in the event.
For his part, Mayor Hubbert Christopher Dolor of Puerto Galera said, “Our community is looking forward to hosting the congress. We take great pride in how we have preserved the natural beauty of Puerto Galera. The lush greenery and the beautiful beaches that we have will be in full display during the congress.”
The five-day congress is also expected to tackle environmental issues.
Moreover, new bays that are up for inclusion in the Most Beautiful Bays in the World Club (MBBWC) will be presented during the congress.
MBBWC is an organization supported by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture. It has been advocating the protection, enhancement, and promotion of prime bays around the world.
PGMBBI, meanwhile, is a non-profit organization composed of Puerto Galera residents who have committed themselves to help preserve Puerto Galera Bay and its coastal environment.
Puerto Galera Bay became a member of MBBWC in 2005.
