The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (Citem) proudly reported to The Manila Times that “Serpent”—a wearable objet d’art by Philippine designer and entrepreneur Milagros “Mila” Imson—was selected as one of the winners at the Asean Jewelry Design Competition 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.
The jewelry set, handcrafted from brass and embellished with carved lapis lazuli blooms, presents a remarkable, modernized display of delicate jewelry metalwork that is distinctive in its asymmetry and intricacy.
Imson, owner of the Kit Silver Jewelry company, which manufactured the prize-winning piece was awarded an opportunity to showcase her creation at the 56th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair. She was also presented with a trophy, as well as a study visit to the prestigious jewelry firm John Hardy in Bali, Indonesia.
Organized by the Asean Intellectual Property Offices in collaboration with the European Union, the Asean Jewelry Design Competition is part of the Asean Project on the Protection of Intellectual Property Rights conceived to motivate creativity, excellence, and research in high-class, top-quality fashion jewelry, and to uphold original, innovative design as a significant marketing instrument among the Asean business community.
Participants to the competition included jewelry designers, artists, and professionals in the fashion industry, students, and apprentices from ASEAN member-countries Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Imson’s Kit Silver Jewelry was founded in 1980 in Meycauayan, Bulacan. Designing and manufacturing primarily gold accessories, the company expanded by adding silver and brass to its line of products and quickly acquired a bigger market. From selling in local bazaars, Kit Silver Jewelry grew into an authoritative name in the industry of jewelry design and manufacture, exporting high-quality customized jewelry and accessories overseas to countries including France, Italy, Russia, and the United Arab Emirates.
