The national poomsae [forms]team claimed two more gold medals on the final day of the prestigious 8th WTF (World Tae kwon do Federation) World Tae kwon do Poomsae Championships held at the Bali International Convention Center in Indonesia.
Veteran campaigner Mikaela Calamba sparked the country’s onslaught on Day 3 as she successfully defended her crown in the female individual freestyle event. It was her second-straight title after ruling the 7th edition held in Tunja, Colombia last year.
Calamba then worked hand in hand with Rinna Babanto and Jocel Ley Ninobla in winning the Team Female-17 gold medal.
Former world champion Jean Pierre Sabido earlier bagged a silver in the men’s freestyle event.
The Philippines has two golds and one silver to place third overall in the medal standings.
Powerhouse South Korea dominated the tournament with five golds and four silvers while the United States would up second with two golds, one silver and one bronze.
Spain is in fourth with 2-0-2 followed by Iran (1-3-4), Vietnam (1-2-5), Indonesia (1-1-3), Taiwan (1-1-3), Canada (1-1-0), Thailand (1-0-4), Germany (1-0-1), China (0-2-2), Turkey (0-1-2), Egypt (0-1-1), Mexico (0-0-3), and France, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia and Ukraine with one bronze each.
The other members of the team are Raphael Enrico Mella, June Ninobla, France Pauline Alarilla, Rani Ann Ortega, Janice Lagman and Glenn Llava.
