PH jins cop 2 more medals in Asean University Games


The Philippines claimed one silver and one more bronze in the 2014 Asean University Games being held in Palembang, Indonesia.

Tae kwon do jin Benjamin Keith Sembrano pocketed the silver in the men’s -68-kilogram while the trio of Juvenile Crisostomo, Leonarda Landtrito and Jocel Ninobla got a bronze in the female poomsae team event.

Ninobla and Rodolfo Reyes Jr. earlier won gold in the mixed pair poomsae and Crisostomo and Raphael Enrico Mella earning bronzes in the female and male individual poomsae, respectively.

The other members of the sparring team were scheduled to compete for gold medals on Thursday night.

In women’s volleyball, Ateneo de Manila University failed to sustain its momentum after absorbing a close 28-26, 16-25, 19-25, 23-25 loss to Indonesia. The Lady Eagles fell to 1-1 mark and will face powerhouse Thailand in their next game.

Reigning University Athletic Association of the Philippines Most Valuable Player Alyssa Valdez led the Lady Eagles with 24 points while Ella De Jesus and Bea De Leon added 14 and 11 points.
