Fourteen members of the national poomsae team left on Wednesday to compete in the 2014 Asian Tae kwon do Poomsae Championships beginning on May 25 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

World championships veterans Jean Pierre Sabido, Ernesto Guzman, Glenn Lava, Marvin Gabriel, Dustin Mella, Enrico Mella, Rani Ann Ortega, Janice Lagman and Jocelyn Ninobla are expected to deliver in the four-day meet. The other members of the team are Juvenile Crisostomo, Elisabella Cesista, Jeordan Dominguez, Jaylord Seridon and June Ninobla.

Sabido, Guzman and Lava won the senior team gold medal in the 2013 World Championships held in Bali, Indonesia while Gabriel, Dustin and Enrico copped a gold in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.

Ortega, Lagman and former teammate Camille Alarilla topped the women’s trio of the 2009 World Championships in Egypt.

“We have a [South Korean] foreign coach with us, Mr. Song Jaewoo. He’s also an international champion. [The team has been training for] almost a month with him but the team had preparatory training before he came,” said Philippine Tae kwon do Association poomsae coach Igor Mella.

He tagged South Korea, Iran, Vietnam, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia and China as the teams to beat.

In the 2012 edition held in Vietnam, the Philippines went home with one gold, two silvers and one bronze.
