Filipino junior netter Alberto Lim Jr. improved to 12th spot in the latest world ranking released by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
Lim earned an additional 60 points when he reached the boys’ singles quarterfinals of the 52nd Coffee Bowl – a Grade 1 tournament held in San Jose, Costa Rica.
The 16-year old Filipino netter ousted Gabriel Bos¬cardin Dias of Brazil in the first round, 7-6 (4), 6-2; Francisco Vittar of Argentina in the second round, 6-1, 6-1; and Olukayode Alafia Damina Ayeni of US in the third round, 7-5, 6-4; before suffering a 4-6, 2-6 loss to American Jeffrey John Wolf.
Lim, the youngest champion in the Philippine Co¬lumbian Association (PCA) Open tennis championship, ended the 2015 season at 22nd.
He ruled the singles event of the China Junior 14 Nanjing, Delhi ITF Juniors and India ITF Junior 1, and doubles play of the Asian Closed Junior Championship, Seogwipo Asia Oceania Closed Junior Championships, 25th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup ITF Junior Tennis Championship and China Junior 14 Nanjing.
Overall, Lim has 657.50 points in the ITF ranking.
Norway’s Casper Ruud took the top spot with 985 points followed by Mate Valkusz of Hungary (977), Orlando Luz of Brazil (940), Mikael Ymer of Sweden (910), Miomir Kecmanovic of Serbia (881), William Blumber of US (840), Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece (779), Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada (740), Chung Yunseong of South Korea (730), Alex De Minaur of Australia (726) and Manuel Pena Lopez of Argentina (692).
