Team Filipinas bagged a bronze medal and a special award in the 8th International Wado Ryu Karatedo International Championships held on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan.
Narayana Rsi Das Mesina landed in third place in the 12-15 years kumite event
while John Enrico Vasquez received a special award after finishing eighth place overall in the same category.
The other members of the team were Alexis Louise Nuñez, Jude Michael Uson, Joanna Lyka Uson, Abigail Iona Brito, Aldrin Christian Brito, Arianne Isabel Brito, Ren Jericho Bistudio and Vishnujana Das Mesina with coach and Wado chief Alejandro Vasquez as delegation head.
“On behalf of the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF), we are really happy that all of their hard works during training are paying off,” PKF secretary-general Raymund Lee Reyes told The Manila Times on Monday.
“It goes to show that our athletes continues to aspire something big, which is to go to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” added Reyes.
Recently, the executive board of International Olympic Committee has aired its support to include karate, as proposed by host Japan, and five other sports program in the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Filipinas Wado Ryu belongs to the Authentic Japanese Martial Arts of Wado Ryu Jujutsu Kenpo Karate created by classical martial artist Sensei Hironori Otsuka.
Filipinas Wado Ryu Karate Federation is an active member of PKF National Sports Association Inc. and the International Federations of Wado Ryu Karate-do Organizations.
