• PH mining industry ready for Asean integration–PMSEA

Baguio City: The country’s mining industry could be highly competitive when the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) integration in 2015 kicks-in, according to the Philippine Mining Safety and Environment Association (PMSEA). PMSEA President Louie Sarmiento, for one, said the country still has rich mineral resources. He noted that nickel mining is currently a pegged as a $2-billion industry. With mineral outputs from other Asean countries expected to enter and compete in the Philippine market, Sarmiento stressed that the mineral industry here only needs to ensure that operations are cost-efficient and production costs are low.
