AMID plans by Japan to open its job market for 500,000 foreign workers up to 2025, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is now laying the ground work to protect Filipino migrant workers against unscrupulous groups and individuals who are likely to take advantage of the expected surge in Japan's labor force demand.

Labor Undersecretary Jacinto Paras, the newly designated cluster head in-charge for Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), said on Sunday that he was now coordinating closely with the heads of the two attached agencies of the DOLE for the crafting of guidelines in relation to requirements for the deployment of foreign workers to Japan.
