• PH netter Iglupas shines in Hong Kong meet



    Promising junior netter Khim Iglupas topped the girls’ singles of the 2016 Hong Kong International Tennis Federation (ITF) Junior Tennis Championship held at the Victoria Park Tennis Court in Causeway Bay.

    Iglupas, who started playing tennis at the age of six, posted an easy 6-3, 6-1 victory over South Korean Cherry Kim in the finals to claim her first title this year.

    The Filipina netter ousted Skylar Wang of Hong Kong in the first round, 6-3, 6-3; Shan Yu of China in the second round, 6-2 6-3; Long Yufei of China in the quarterfinals, 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-4); and Lee Kuan Yi of Taiwan in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-3.

    On the other hand, Kim arranged a showdown with Iglupas by Millenia Putri Novela Rezha of Indonesia in the other semifinals game, 6-1, 6-0.

    In girls’ doubles, Iglupas and Japanese partner Makoto Ohara bowed to Chinese duo Long and Zhao Le in the semifinals, 3-6, 6-7 (5).

    John Bryan Decasa Otico and Arthur Craig Pantino, on the other hand, failed to reach the medal round in the boys’ singles.

    Otico defeated Wong Tin Long Hugo of Hong Kong in the first round (6-2, 6-0) and Hsu Ting-Hao of Taiwan in the second round (6-0, 6-2) before absorbing a 2-6, 4-6 loss to second seed Jack Wong of Hong Kong in the quarterfinals.

    For his part, Pantino succumbed to third pick Ching Lam of Hong Kong in the opening round, 3-6, 2-6.

    In boys’ doubles, Otico and Pantino also bowed to the No. 1 pair of Hong Kong Anthony Jackie Tang and Jack Wong in the semifinals, 2-6, 3-6.
