Filipino Jerome Romualdez overpowered Mahfuz Hossain Bhuiyan of Bangladesh, 6-0, 6-1, to advance to the second round of the ITF (International Tennis Federation) Junior Tennis Tournament 2013 being held at the National Tennis Complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The 14-year-old Romualdez needed less than an hour to oust the Bangladeshi in the Grade 5 tournament.
Romualdez arranged a second-round meeting with No. 16 Vishu Prasad of India, who earned an opening round bye.
Meanwhile, ace junior netter Alberto Lim Jr. is revving up for the prestigious Metropolia Orange Bowl International Championship scheduled on December 9 to 15 at the Frank Veltri Tennis Center in Florida, USA.
The tournament is a Grade A event – a Grand Slam status that will be participated in by world ranked No. 1 Alexander Zverev of Germany, No. 3 Giang Quinzi of Italy, No. 7 Johan Sebastien Tatlot of France and No. 8 Filippo Baldi of Italy.
Lim reached the second round of the 2013 Seogwipo Asia Oceania International Junior Tennis Championships in Jeju, South Korea. He lost to top seed Lee Duck Hee of South Korea 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
“Alberto has done very well in this tournament losing only to the ranked No. 17 player in the world. We are now preparing for the Grade A event in Florida this December,” said coach Manny Tecson.
At present, Lim is ranked 187th in the world. He must be in the Top 100 to earn a spot in the main draw of the Grand Slam events next year, according to Tecson.
