Second seeds Roxanne Resma and Khim Iglupas reached the girls’ doubles semifinals of the 7th Malacca International Junior Championship 2014 being held at the Malacca Tennis Complex in Malaysia.
Resma and Iglupas wasted no time in crushing Shevita Aulana and Novela Rezha Millenia Putri of Indonesia, 6-1, 6-4, in their quarterfinal match that lasted for less than an hour.
The Filipina netters battle the third-seeded Taiwanese pair of Chen Han-Chi and Pai Ya Yun, which hurdled past No. 7 Setia Indri Harti of Indonesia and Mei Otsuka of Japan, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 10-3.
Iglupas continued her impressive run in the singles play as she ousted No. 10 Lisa Marie Rioux of Japan, 6-2, 7-6 (5), to advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation.
The 15-year-old Iglupas will be facing No. 14 Lee Yang of Taiwan, who stunned top seed Yinglak Jittakoat of Thailand, 6-4, 6-2.
Resma, on the other hand, succumbed to No. 15 Manita Bootsarakomvisit of Thailand, 4-6, 3-6.
In boys’ doubles, John Bryan Decasa and Indonesian Steven Poedji lost to Haekai Ramadhan and Pambudi Wiguna of Indonesia, 1-6, 0-6, while Eric Olivarez and Indonesian Christian Edison bowed to Hao Sheng Koay and Zu Zinyang Tan of Malaysia, 3-6, 4-6.
